An Unexpected Obsession

To our friends and family, this growing passion for penguins was nearly incomprehensible. While they were going to the beaches of Hawaii, Susan and I were headed to places none of them had heard of. Then we told them we were going to find penguins. Suddenly friends would waddle like a penguin, flap their “flippers” like a penguin, even bray like a penguin. For us, the penguins were their own justification.
